Glossary¶
ARRS¶
Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme. A PCN workforce funding scheme used to support specified additional roles.
Benchmark¶
A comparison point such as PCN, sub-ICB, ICB, region, England, or a peer group. Benchmarks help provide context but do not automatically explain why a value is high or low.
Denominator¶
The eligible population or total count used in a rate or percentage. Always check the denominator before comparing percentages.
DES¶
Directed Enhanced Service. A contractual service specification, often used in PCN-level requirements.
DNA¶
Did Not Attend. An appointment outcome where the patient did not attend the booked appointment.
FTE¶
Full-time equivalent. A workforce measure that adjusts for contracted or worked hours rather than counting people as whole individuals.
GPAD¶
General Practice Appointment Data. Published appointment activity data derived from GP appointment systems.
ICB¶
Integrated Care Board. NHS statutory body responsible for planning and funding many local health services.
IIF¶
Investment and Impact Fund. A PCN incentive scheme with indicators and rules that can change by year.
List Size¶
Registered patient count. This is usually a raw headcount and is different from weighted population measures used in some funding calculations.
Numerator¶
The count meeting a condition within a denominator. For example, the number of patients achieving an indicator.
ODS Code¶
Organisation Data Service code. A unique organisation code used across NHS reference data.
PCN¶
Primary Care Network. A group of GP practices working together with local partners.
Prevalence¶
The proportion of a population recorded with a condition or characteristic. Prevalence can reflect demographics, disease burden, coding quality, and register management.
QOF¶
Quality and Outcomes Framework. A national GP practice incentive framework based on indicators, registers, achievement, and points.
Sub-ICB¶
A geography below ICB level, often used for local commissioning or reporting context.
Weighted Population¶
A population measure adjusted for factors such as workload, demographics, or need depending on the formula. It is not the same as registered list size.
